Mammoth Hot Springs.

The Tour Director knew of a picnic area called, oddly enough, Yellowstone Picnic Area, and we stopped there during a steady downpour for an in-car nosh: bagels and cream cheese, carrots, grapes, and trail mix. Sandi wrote and your humble driver/photographer catnapped while the rain beat on the roof. After lunch we drove back to Tower-Roosevelt where, since the parking lot was crammed, I dropped Sandi off, parked down at the cabin, and walked back up. Good thing she asked me FORTY SEVEN TIMES before we left home if I remembered my rain pants! She got the weather forecast (promising) and we listened to the motorcyclists complain as they went squish slosh squish across the floor. Back to the room but only briefly, as we made a decision to try Mammoth Hot Springs.

Back in Mammoth we saw a bull elk just as the sky brightened and the rain stopped.

Off we went on our Mammoth walk--it's an amazing place. More Mammoth here.

     This is Liberty Cap.

     Otherworldly.

Looking back towards the hotel, grill, ranger station, gas station, and cabins.
