Sunday, August 31st.

We started out our third and last day at Tower-Roosevelt by heading east to Slough Creek, still harboring a desire to see wolves. We weren't the only hopeful animal lovers.

After a fruitless hour and twenty minutes we cashed it in and headed back to Roosevelt Lodge for free coffee next to the fire, and then a quick stop at the cabin before setting off south. Maybe a map is called for once again. You can see Slough Creek at the upper right; we are heading south towards Tower Fall and, eventually, the Upper and Lower Falls.

Before Tower Fall is the Calcite Springs Overlook, with wonderful boardwalks above the Yellowstone River.

More columnar basalt (we're close to Sheepeater Cliffs) at a big pullout with a massive sheer cliff on one side of the road and the dropoff to the canyon on the other.

    Tower Fall.

At the Tower Fall visitor center. It's not easy to get good--or inexpensive--coffee in the park.
