Sheepeater Cliffs.

As in 2012, we drove south from Mammoth to Sheepeater Cliffs, as Sandi, in the throes of animal hunger, wants to see the marmots that supposedly dwell there.

Unlike 2012, we had a chance to take the trail back to the natural amphitheatre created by a huge half-circle of basalt rocks. It was very quiet, and needless to say, we were being bear-aware.

     Columnar basalt.

     Taken as we headed back.

It took a dozen tries, but trying's half the fun. Zooming in and out during the exposure.

This little guy, a ground squirrel, met us at the picnic area next to the parking lot. I suspect he was looking for a handout.
