Waiting for Grand.

Oh, no, more maps. I should have posted this one earlier to give an idea of the scope of the trails. This is the entire Upper Geyser Basin.

It's now mid-afternoon and we've walked from Beehive to Grand. You can see both on this less detailed map.

Like many "predictable" geysers, the experts project a certain eruption time with a margin on either side. Grand was predicted for 3:30 plus-or-minus 90 minutes. If you've got the time, it's worth the wait, as it's the tallest predictable geyser in the world, with an interval of 8-12 hours, a height of 180 feet or more, and a duration of over ten minutes. We--or rather Sandi--sat down around 2:30, and I wandered up and down the boardwalk taking pictures.

Sandi waiting; if you're wondering what she always seems to be doing, it's writing in her trip journal.

Two views of some of the pools and springs just up from Grand.

     Lots of markers like this:

Geyser gazers waiting. The guys in the first two pictures are brothers.
